From the Football Field to the Courtroom

Long before BJ Kemp stood in front of a judge, he was taking hits on the football field at the University of Houston — on scholarship. The same qualities that made him effective on the field followed him into law: relentless preparation, the ability to read a situation quickly, and the refusal to quit when things get hard. He played for every yard. He still does — just in a different arena now.

When his playing days ended, BJ enrolled at Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, earning his Juris Doctorate in 2019. He chose Thurgood Marshall intentionally — a school named after the architect of Brown v. Board of Education, built on the tradition of using the law as a tool for justice, not just profit. After passing the Texas Bar, he joined Calhoun Meredith, one of Houston’s respected personal injury firms, where he sharpened his skills on serious PI cases.

Not satisfied with just one specialty, BJ pursued an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida, one of the top tax law programs in the country. That credential opened the door to estate planning — helping families structure their assets, protect what they’ve built, and make sure their wishes are honored after they’re gone.

In 2022, BJ founded Texas Legal Giants PLLC — a firm built around one idea: every client deserves a lawyer who fights like the outcome matters personally. Not a numbered case. Not a file to be processed. A person.

A Storyteller for Justice

BJ describes himself as a “storyteller for justice.” When he prepares a case, he isn’t just organizing facts — he’s building a narrative that explains how the injury changed a real person’s life. Insurance adjusters and defense attorneys see paperwork. BJ makes sure judges and juries see people. That approach has produced seven-figure recoveries for Texas Legal Giants clients and a reputation as a lawyer who doesn’t take lowball offers.

Family & Houston Roots

BJ was born and raised in Houston. The city isn’t a backdrop for his career — it’s home. He understands what Houston families face: the cost of medical care after a serious accident, the uncertainty of lost income, the frustration of dealing with insurance companies that have no interest in being fair. That personal connection to the community shapes how he handles every case.

BJ is married to Dr. Alysia Kemp, and together they are raising two sons, Benjamin and Bentley. Being a father puts a sharper edge on the work. When BJ represents a parent recovering from a serious injury, or a family trying to make sure their children are protected through estate planning, it isn’t abstract. He’s fighting for families the same way he’d want someone to fight for his own.

Outside the office, BJ stays connected to the Houston community through mentorship and civic involvement. He believes attorneys have a responsibility to give back to the communities that shaped them — and that the legal profession is most meaningful when it’s accessible to people who don’t always feel like the system is on their side.

Practice Focus

Personal Injury

BJ represents clients hurt in car accidents, 18-wheeler crashes, slip and fall incidents, wrongful death cases, and other serious injury situations across Houston and Texas. PI cases are handled on contingency — no fee unless BJ wins. That structure means his financial interests are aligned with his clients’ from day one.

Estate Planning

Through his LL.M. in Tax, BJ brings deeper understanding of asset protection than most PI attorneys can offer. His estate planning practice covers wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. He helps Houston families — especially those building generational wealth — structure their assets so the right people inherit what they’ve built.
